P.E.A.R. (Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve) Park
Soccer Field Improvements

Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park) “Gateway” is the front 50 acres of the park and represents the active use area offering numerous recreational amenities including two softball fields, one football/soccer field, basketball court, six pickleball courts, two tennis courts, two large picnic pavilions with grills, playground, canoe and kayak launch (currently closed due to low water), geo-caches, “life trail” exercise stations, and access to the park’s hiking and nature trails. The “Gateway” also features a large dog park with five different areas for dogs of various ages, sizes, and abilities.

The improvements covered approximately 4,400 linear feet of entrance driveway and a 12-foot-wide trail system. The road was placed to allow optimal access to the park and allow visitors easy access while still maintaining the natural character of the area. The main entrance road connects directly to US Highway 27, and this connection required coordination and permitting with the Florida Department of Transportation for an access permit and a drainage permit. The entrance roadway aligns with Legacy Boulevard on the east side of US 27.

The Madrid CPWG designed Phase 1 improvements included:

  • 4,400 Linear Feet Long Entrance Driveway
  • 3 Mile Long 12-Foot Wide Trail System
  • Drainage Improvements

The Madrid CPWG designed Phase 2 improvements included:

  • 3-acre Active Recreation Area
  • Pickleball Courts
  • Waterless Restroom Facilities
  • Parking Areas

Madrid CPWG plan included innovative stormwater designs to minimize the effects on construction on the park’s native ecology.
